If you had to be stuck in a lift with someone, who would it be and why?
It would have to be Lord Sugar. He’s a millionaire that’s come from a working class background like me. He’s done really well to get to where he has so it would be good to have a chat with him and hopefully get some tips!
What is your biggest fear?
Being locked up in prison, I’d hate to be in a cell.
Do you have any superstitions?
No. I never had any when I played either. I think it makes you mentally weak if you have any superstitions.
If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?
Frank Sinatra – My Way. There’s a message in that song for everyone. Everything you do in life, you should do it your way.
What is the most expensive thing you’ve bought, not including property?
I think that was a car for my wife. It was on old MG that I bought 10 years ago for £8k.
What is the best piece of advice you’ve been given?
I can’t remember if this was advice I was given or whether it is a conclusion that I arrived at on my own but you should trust your beliefs and do what you think is right. Live life the right way and treat people how you expect to be treated. It’s something that I always tell my children and if you live your life in that way then you’ll not go far wrong.
What is your indulgence?
I love a bottle of wine. It needs to be red though.
What item could you not live without?
I couldn’t live without my running shoes. I try to get out running as much as I can. I’ll be gutted when I have to give that up.
If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
I’d change my height. I’m around 5”8 now so I would definitely make myself taller.
Where are you next going on holiday?
I’m going to America soon on a working holiday. I go to Pennsylvania for two weeks to do some coaching then I finish it off by spending a few nights in New York.
