If you had to be stuck in a lift with someone, who would it be and why?
My partner, Anne Rainsbury. We have got on so well for 35 years so it wouldn’t be too bad.
What is your biggest fear?
Nothing in particular – I accept that I’m going to die but I just always try to be careful and avoid banana skins.
Do you have any superstitions?
No, I’m not superstitious at all.
If you could listen to only one song for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?
Probably Dido’s Lament. I think it’s such a beautiful and emotional song.
What is the most expensive thing you’ve ever bough, not including property?
My second-hand car, a Peugeot estate.
What is the best piece of advice you’ve been given?
Pottery is worth what you can get for it. I’m a potter and I love to make things. I had to understand that whatever I make can only be valued by how much someone is willing to pay for it.
What is your indulgence?
A good bottle of red wine.
What item could you not live without?
My computer, definitely. They’re very important for work.
If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
I’d like to be younger!
Where are you next going on holiday?
Rome, in October.
