If you had to be stuck in a lift with someone, who would it be and why?
Either the Dalai Lama or Billy Connolly. One would bring Tibetan serenity, the other Glaswegian insanity.
What is your biggest fear?
Being totally lost.
Do you have any superstitions?
No.
If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?
Sam Cooke singing Stephen Foster's Jeanie With The Light Brown Hair. The lyric, the melody, the voice...I'd be swooning like a swain from dusk until dawn.
What is the most expensive thing you own, not including property?
My wife, no, my daughter...well, either or both of them.
What is the best piece of advice you’ve been given?
One day at a time (although I wish I'd remember it more often!)
What is your indulgence?
Non fiction books.
What item could you not live without?
My old acoustic guitar.
If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
Everything...where would you like me to start?
Where are you next going on holiday?
Dorset, this weekend.
