This month, Eluned Morgan became the first female First Minister in Wales’ history.
Eluned will bring her experience, dedication and down to earth approach to this role. Speaking in the Senedd chamber after her appointment, Eluned’s powerful and ambitious words highlighted her commitment to the people of Wales, pledging to lead a government that will listen, learn and deliver.
The JCVI has published advice for the autumn 2024 Covid-19 vaccination programme. Eligible people will receive appointment invitations. If you do not have internet access and have questions about the vaccination programme, please get in touch with my office who will be able to contact the Health Board on your behalf.
This summer Newport has a calendar packed full of events for all ages and budgets. Every year the Welsh Yemeni Festival in Pill has a lovely atmosphere, with music and dancing is a real celebration of the Yemeni community in Newport.
Don’t worry if you missed it, there is still lots to look forward to. We have Pill Carnival returning August Bank Holiday Monday and on Friday, Splash ‘Port opened at Tredegar Park, with all sorts of water-related activities to enjoy. A reminder that if you or your children are near open water at all during the summer holidays, it is important to be aware of your safety. The RNLI has online educational resources for young people, they also run safety workshops, contact them if you want to arrange one at your school or youth group.
A Level and GCSE results days are fast approaching. Wishing the best of luck to all who will be receiving results in the coming weeks. Whatever your results, there are lots of options open to you and I want to wish you well in what you do next.
As we look ahead to the September and the next school year, it is important you know what help is available to you. Children whose families are on lower incomes and qualify for certain benefits can now apply for a School Essentials Grant. Contact Newport City Council for further information on eligibility and the application process.
My office is available Monday to Friday every week and all throughout the summer. As your Member of the Senedd, I can help Newport West constituents with issues which are devolved in Wales, including health, education, climate change, transport, the environment, arts and sport.
If you have any concerns or issues related to the Senedd, please do not hesitate to reach out. You can contact me at Jayne.Bryant@Senedd.Wales or call 01633 376627.
Jayne Bryant is the Senedd member for Newport West.
