Autumn has well and truly arrived and like me, many struggle with their mental health at this time of year.

On that note, I thought I would take this opportunity to highlight some of the wonderful local groups and businesses dedicated to supporting wellbeing in my constituency.

This week I met with a community interest company called Thriving Communities. Run by health professionals from around the local area, they are responsible for the Hengoed Happiness and Wellbeing Group.

They arrange regular walks, trips and opportunities to socialise. They run courses and opportunities in various locations around the borough for yoga and other forms of movement and fun.

They are soon introducing a new counselling and coaching service, which will be a pay what you can afford service. You can find out more about what they offer on their website: What We Offer - Thriving Communities CIC

I am a regular at Captiva Spa. I visit every month for a trim. However, they offer much more than haircuts. They are popular for their extensive list of holistic therapies and spa experiences.

I would absolutely recommend a visit if you need to unwind.

Emma Burns of Soulfully You is a local reflexology therapist. Emma has a passion for self-care, nature and helping you to show some love to the body you are in.

Emma also offers 3.5 hour mini retreats, where you can partake in art, journalling, breathwork and coaching.

Team Rees Gym is a brilliant setting based on Trecenydd Business Park. It is the perfect location to boost your endorphins with some exercise, which is proven to reduce pain and be a mood booster.

As well as the guidance of a professional team and state of the art gym equipment, the gym offers an extended timetable of group classes and a running club.

Caerphilly Miners Centre is a community hub, based in the old Miners Hospital building. The ambitions of the volunteers there, centre around the wellbeing of the local community.

They have many different social activities going on every week, which all help to reduce social isolation and encourage inclusivity.

They have classes coming up encouraging wellbeing, which include Clock Cricket, Art, Pilates, Tai Chi, Men’s Shed and Chair Exercises. You can see the full list of what’s on here: What’s On | Caerphilly Miners (caerphillyminerscentre.co.uk)

Take care and please get in touch if I can help.
