If there is one thing I am really, truly proud of within my constituency, it is the way that communities come together in times of hardship and challenge.

We saw it during the Coronavirus pandemic and we continue to see it now, with the cost of living crisis. Community groups appearing all over to give back to the local communities, proving crucial support for those who need it most.

Just last week I was in touch with Caerphilly Uniform Exchange, the Toybox Project and Caerphilly Tabletop Gamers – all brought about by individuals who want to do more for those around them. We are extremely lucky to have so many wonderful people where we live.

This unification was also evident last month at the Senghenydd Mining Memorial’s service to remember those lost in mining disasters across Wales. A mourning and recollection of what those people went through, but also an inspiration to teach future generations about the history of our communities and to never let such catastrophes happen again.

On Remembrance Sunday, I have had the honour of representing residents at services in Caerphilly and at the National Memorial in Cardiff.

I was particularly proud to attend alongside my Senior Caseworker Michelle, who is an RAF reservist. She marched as part of the parade in Cardiff and it brings me great pride to see the important contribution she has made since joining the RAF.

As ever, Caerphilly’s parade and service was a testament to the work of Elaine and the Royal British Legion volunteers, as it is every year. It is always emotional to see such an impressive turnout and how much it means to people locally. This is just another example of the community supporting each other and remembering those who were before us.

My Constituency Engagement Officer Laura laid a wreath in Bargoed on my behalf for the first time this year. She found the whole experience incredibly moving and I’m sure that all who attended felt it too.

Please take a moment today to remember the Armed Forces and their families from across Wales, who have lost their lives in conflict to defend our democratic freedoms.
