P C NEILSON(Letters, November 1) is right in saying that the godless can be as good and caring as the godly, and very often far more so.

But it’s only because we are all made in the image of God and there’s something of God’s nature in every one of us, even if we won’t acknowledge it. Our writer is kidding himself thinking that life is all the more precious for the atheist. The well-known hymn, Loved with everlasting love (George Wade Robinson, 1838 - 1877) testifies to the reality that it’s the believer who is truly able to appreciate the here and now.
