WE AT Newport R.N.A. would like to thank the nuns at Claremont House for being not only kind enough to allow the placing of a plaque commemorating the fact that Commander John Wallace Linton VC.DSO.DSC was born there, but after the ceremony inviting all who attended into their home for a cup of tea and cake, most generous.
We would like to thank the mayor and mayoress for attending on a rather busy day for them, the members of Newport Civic Society for all the help they gave us in ordering, siting and making the plaque, The South Wales Argus for the write up they published prior to the ceremony, and last but not least The John Wallace Linton Public House for allowing us to book a table on a busy Saturday afternoon.
Thank you all, hoping I haven’t missed anyone out on this rather successful occasion.
