IN the past week the bill for gay marriage, passed the report stage in the House of Lords without including many of the reasonable and necessary safeguards to protect the civil liberties of people who believe in traditional marriage.
Several courageous peers tabled good civil liberty amendments, but the bill’s backers, including the leadership of the Conservatives, the Liberal Democrats and Labour, saw to it that none of them were voted into the bill. It’s shameful.
Supporters of this bill talk of equality for homosexual acts within marital relations. The homosexual movement keeps insisting on respect for diversity. However, equality and diversity are two opposite concepts. What are diverse are different, not equal.
We should also remember that the government said, during debates, that fidelity was not important in marriage and same sex couples make better parents. What wonderful advice for our children!
