WHY is it that the residents of Newport are  facing yet another rise in council tax? Since 1998, council tax in Wales has gone up 148 per cent, a staggering amount.

Westminster has given local councils, as in England, money to enable them to freeze council tax. In fact, Eric Pickles has told councils to hold a referendum if they wish to increase it over 2 per cent.
The Assembly has simply pocketed this money and has increased the tax.   Where has this money gone? Certainly it has not been spent in Newport, a town, put politely, which has seen better days.
