I READ with interest the letter about the Royal Gwent Hospital’s ENT department (SWA July 19) as I am having a similar problem to that reader.
I have been waiting for over a year for a hearing test as my hearing is not as good as I would like it to be.
I have asked when will I get an appointment several times and all that I’m told is that I am on the list.
I was in that department earlier this week to get my hearing aid repaired and on asking when would I get an appointment, I was told that it would take ten minutes to get the list onto the computer screen and that it would be possibly next year before I would be seen as there was such a long waiting list.
Every time I go to the ENT department, there never seems to be much activity in the area as I never see lots of people waiting to be seen.
If I was to go private, I could be seen in a matter of days, but why should I have to go private when for years I paid into the health service?
Something needs to be done as soon as possible.
