WHAT a lovely tribute you gave Mary Courtney MBE on July 4 regarding her 101st birthday.
How disappointing you didn’t print the article and photographs that were sent in to you.
These items would have been more interesting to your readers as they concerned local history.
As a member of Friends of Tredegar House, I knew about the cigar cutter.
Mary Courtney, one of the founders of the Friends of Tredegar House was honoured to be asked to present the article to the mayor, Cliff Suller, on the occasion of her birthday on July 1.
Aneurin Bevan Court put on a coffee morning with the mayor in attendance.
These photographs will be going to South Dakota to show them it was received safely and will be put on show in Newport Museum.
You had a golden opportunity to give two icons of Newport a real story.
Unfortunately, Tredegar House has had a bad press recently, totally unwarranted, but this article was worthy of more than the mini space it was given. You didn’t even print a picture of the cigar cutter.
Surely you can do better. You have more pages and are doing more, yet you are not giving a local paper interesting local news.
I am a disgruntled subscriber and I’m sure I’m not alone.
