What I’ve read concerning Mrs Napier is at best ill informed claptrap at worst political opportunism.
Vilification and condemnation of Ian Johnston by third-rate politicians, mostly at the same time, without a shred of evidence and ability to assess facts. Nothing new there then.
Of eight chief constables of Gwent, John Over was the best, Napier is not in the top six, and she’s no John Over, Mr Flynn.
She established a domestic violence unit, laudable, but what of the years of weekend drunken violence and abuse in Newport city centre? Napier claimed crime statistics were down over two years by 27 per cent.
If true it’s a national achievement, sensible politicians should have microscopically scrutinised these figures.
Nevertheless, serious crimes, robbery and violent assaults are up 32 per cent and seven per cent respectively. She had a press office staff of 20 civilians, cash to save a few frontline officers.
A chief constable who felt threatened and bullied. I wouldn’t wish to be led on the streets by her. Appointed after an inconclusive first selection board, she was the only candidate at the second.
Some transparent democracy, hey lads! True or false?
Mr J J Sanderson Woodlands Newport
