I WAS extremely alarmed to read a letter from Debbie Jones in last Friday’s Argus pointing out that Wales is set to raise the age women are invited for cervical screening from 20 to 25 next month. Those born after September 1, 1993, will be affected.
Like her, I am outraged by this move which will put young lives needlessly at risk. Cervical Screening Wales’ website claims that “screening women under the age of 25 is not effective at preventing cervical cancer”.
Countless women under 25 who have developed pre-cancerous cells and had them successfully treated as a result of screening would not agree with this flawed analysis. This testing does save lives, especially as there are often no symptoms.
Please email your AMs and protest to get this decision overturned.
