MAY I agree wholeheartedly with Rosalind Lee. It is bad enough having empty shops, but to see them full of rubbish, and the windows often covered with ‘fly-posters’ only exacerbates the situation.
The one outstanding example (of many) is the e
x- bookshop on the corner of Market Street and Upper Dock Street. Inside it looks like an SAS training area, while outside the windows and woodwork are thick with grime and smeared with what can only be imagined at. I dread to think what it is like upstairs.
Refurbished, it would possibly be a good site for the art club/organization recently featured in this paper. Surely there must be a clause in shop ownership or rental, to ensure that when vacating properties, especially in the city centre, they should be left in good order and maintained as such.
How the landlord can hope for the place to be occupied in that state amazes me.
