I WOULD like to draw the attention of Mr Tom McCarthy (I like informality Tom) and R H Ashton to the experiments being carried out by Professor David Redich at Minnesota University.
He calls it ‘mental time travellers’ and it shows how rats are capable of choosing whether to take an easy quick meal or to wait for various lengths of time, indicated by audible signals for their favourite food to become available.
The rat’s brain is monitored electronically and is shown lit up on a screen to show which bit of it is working. It was an extremely clever, convincing and thorough experiment. If either of the two gentlemen mentioned above were to ask me if I believe that a power exists that has a bearing on mankind’s behaviour, I would have to give them the only answer that I feel is the truth and that is: ‘Possibly, but I don’t really know’.
However, that’s not what they want to hear and I will not indulge in what I do not believe to be the truth, as far as that goes I consider that I’m just another naked ape. I wonder what Charles Darwin would have thought?
