MR Johnson condemns the MPs for Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly and Newport West for criticising Gwent’s police & crime commissioner (PCC) Ian Johnston.
He refers to issues with Blaenau Gwent and Caerphilly councils as justification for attacking the MPs.
It’s disappointing that Mr Johnson doesn’t seem to be aware that these MPs have no responsibility for the activities of the councils in their constituencies.
And it’s astonishing that he can’t appreciate the difference in legitimacy between elected MPs and the ConDem Government’s made-up role of PCC.
Despite Mr Johnson’s claim, this isn’t a party-political issue.
PCCs are a costly and unnecessary imposition on our police services.
And in his treatment of Gwent’s last chief constable, many believe Ian Johnston has brought the already-questionable PCC role into disrepute.
