The Tories argue that zero hour contracts are good for workers bosses and the economy.
This ignores the insecurity of employment in an economy as depressed as post-crash Britain's, the huge imbalance of power between worker and employer and increasing levels of unsustainable personal debt, which is fuelling the economy.
The UK growing reliance on zero hour contracts is a symptom of a sick economy and a broken labour market, which is increasingly geared up to providing low paid and insecure work with no guarantee of any hours. How can people pay into a pension or buy a home when they have no idea how much they will be taking home each month? Cameron says stand on your own two feet, work and you will be rewarded, he must have been thinking about his city friends.
