FOLLOWING my letter regarding Ian Johnston. Replies from Mr Boyd and Cllr Kirby, if read closely, supported my argument “Political and Personal” attacks against him and any other supporting person. Mr Boyd’s letter repeats his continued theme that nobody should have been elected other than his preferred candidate and gets annoyed and personal if you support any other people.
Cllr Kirby’s was intriguing: MPs are voted in to represent us, long may that continue. They also need to hold to account and criticise all public bodies including the PCC, but they must be even handed. The role of the PCC was put in place democratically by MPs in Parliament.
Ian Johnston then won the public vote locally. Cllr Kirby’s party lost. Cllr Kirby states that “Elected MPs have no responsibility for the activities of the councils in their constituencies”. They can actively campaign for and support their party in local elections, but it seems when the wheel comes off they cannot criticise or hold them to account? Strange. There we are, no wonder Mr Johnston stood on the promise Keep Politics out of Policing.
