MR A BOND (Letters, August 16) is satisfied if one’s life ‘conforms to decent human standards’.

So who decides what’s decent and what’s not? For standards of morality to count for anything, they must be measurable against absolutes. Otherwise morality becomes relative, a matter of opinion, open to consensus.

In what was formerly a Christian country, it’s a shame that one should now have to spell out who the Absolute Authority should be.
