AFTER enduring another episode of verbal abuse as a driver cut across my path to turn left up Waterloo Road I would like to know why 99 per cent of road users in Newport have no idea what the blue bus lanes signs mean?

By not driving in the left hand lane outside of the times and days given they are breaking the law. The Highway Codes states, keep left at all times when possible.

Therefore the imbeciles driving in the right hand lane outside of the stated hours should be fined and given three points on their licence.

If you cannot understand a basic traffic signal you should not be driving.

There are the same signs outs RGH and on Malpas Road, yet everyone just blindly follows the arrows on the road, regardless of the day or time.

This sign, although not an actual Newport City sign shows that the bus lane is only operational Mon-Fri, 7am-10am and 4pm-6.30pm. This means at all other times all traffic should use it and keep left.

The same signs, but with slightly different times are on display in Newport.

I would be grateful if you could ask Gwent Police why they do not stop and fine every driver who does not know what these signs mean? If you took their keys from them it would relieve congestion.
