SO NEWPORT City Council is asking for views as it attempts to address a significant budget shortfall. In doing so, the council is trying to solve one problem could end up creating another problem.
It is clear that the council is looking to shift the library and museum into the Newport Centre.
The option appraisal underpinning any decision must look at the longer term effects of leaving a large building empty in a prominent location in the heart of Newport. The council has to be explicit that alternative uses for the current library and museum building are very limited and are compounded by its structural problems.
If the council is not careful we could have the pleasure of yet another eyesore in the city centre.
