HAVING heard of the sad death of broadcaster and presenter David Jacobs on Monday, I had the honour and privilege of meeting him in both Blackpool in 1972 and in Bournemouth in 1973, more than 40 years ago, and on each occasion he remembered me and asked how my brother and his wife were, he always had time for everyone and enjoyed meeting people.
David Jacobs is among only a handful of broadcasters who I rank as outstanding; the others were the late Ray Moore, Radio 2, who passed away some years ago, the other presenters are Dotun Adebayo and Rod Sharp, BBC Radio 5 Live, with Up All Night and BBC Radio Wales’ Chris Needs, this gentleman again has time to speak to the public.
I should not forget community radio in Brynmawr, just as good as the BBC, if not better, Pete Newman and Graham Statt, not forgetting Sylvia Riddick, each of these has time for their audience, the listeners love them. My condolences go to David Jacobs’ family.
