IN HIS latest ‘Your MP Writes,’ David Davies takes yet another opportunity to offer up his own well-informed view on the climate change debate. He calls for the revocation of the Climate Change Act, citing that there’s been no increase in global temperatures (I think he means average surface temperatures) for 15 years. Hadley figures do indeed seem to suggest that there hasn’t been a rise in average surface temperatures, but this should not be mistaken as indication that global warming has ceased.

Much of the impact of climate change has been absorbed by the world’s oceans. Global sea temperatures have risen year on year, as have mean absolute sea levels and ocean acidity (due to CO2 dissolving); while glacier thickness and Arctic sea ice coverage (which last year shrank to its lowest level on record) has declined rapidly over the past 50 years.

I suggest Mr Davies looks more holistically (and scientifically) at the global effects of climate change. Evidence and scientific consensus overwhelmingly supports man-made climate change, and time is running out for us to act. While other countries are taking mitigation measures, the UK risks lagging behind.
