GOOD to see some old colleagues from the Civic Centre in SWA, about the Chartist Mural. I hope they save this, as it’s a unique part of the city’s history.
The same approach was taken when Hans Fiebusch painted the murals around the main entrance hall of the Civic Centre.
Amazing to see some well-known people portrayed in garb of centuries gone by. One I remember is the old town clerk, Jimmy Iles, who is posed on a horse waving a broadsword. He was certainly a well-known Newport character and did things like inviting famous stars performing in the town to the Civic Centre. In particular Joseph Locke, the singer, and The Lone Ranger. Let’s hope a public place can be found for the Chartist Mural.
