Explain this IN RESPONSE to Mr Nutt’s letter (September 10) where he argues that the 25p extra an hour paid to low-paid staff in Caerphilly (who are predominantly women) to introduce the living wage could have been used to create more jobs, or plug the gap in funding left by Assembly cuts to transport. It is clear that Plaid’s Mr Nutt is a great believer in the merits of the working poor and how if we all worked for less, everything would be better: the same argument used by George Osborne. Maybe he would like to explain why German workers have seen their wages rise by 2.7 per cent and despite UK workers having seen their wages fall in real terms for the last three years, UK unemployment is well over 2.5 million and Germany is the power house of Europe. Plaid is all over the place on this issue, with their councillors either abstaining or supporting a living wage.
