MIGHT I suggest that following the review of the factors regarding the safe practices involving cyclists and traffic (Argus, September 10), may I also suggest one regarding the safety of pedestrians and cyclists? I am sure people who regularly use the Old Green, Upper Dock Street, Shaftesbury Street and the castle pedestrian area, and often the crowded bus station, would have something (possibly unprintable) to say on the subject. Riders often travel at high speed down the slopes and, unsighted, into the subway areas. The numbers who dismount, as instructed, can be counted on the fingers of one foot.
It is a constant source of amazement to me that, through sheer luck, there are so few accidents in the area.
