THE ‘GRAVY train’ described by C J Portal (Argus 17th Sept) relating to MPs’ expenses could certainly do with an overhaul, as quite a number seem to have other outside financial interests. But travelling and accommodation for those living outside the London area should still be covered, not every politician is guaranteed a job for life.
That television programme he saw, where teachers were feeding school-children at their own expense, appeared to have less to do with poverty and more to do with neglect. Were the parents and/or social services contacted by either the programme makers, the children’s charity mentioned or the headmistress? If not, why not?
Those obviously left-wing critics who made the programme to have a poke at the ‘nasty’ Tory-led coalition, would serve the children better if they used their information to ‘name names’ and report what they know to the relevant authorities.
