THE editor puts up a strong case for why the Chartist Mural probably cannot be saved. However the fault lies with planners and architects for not considering other features that are important to the landscape when devising new schemes. A typical case is the murals attached to the Library, Museum and Art Gallery, also in John Frost Square. These were designed by the artist Sebastian Boyesen, commissioned by the Council and presumably paid for by the rate payers. Unfortunately the new entrance to the Kingsway Shopping Centre blocks out part of the murals, so that the whole appearance is now a mess. This does not help the Shopping Centre nor the Library and Museum. Why was it allowed to happen?
