I HAVE just received my copy of Newport Matters that concentrated on how much money the council has to save and at what cost to the people of Newport.
I have an idea that could save thousands of pounds each year. Why don’t we reduce the number of councillors we have in each area, especially those who we don’t see until re-election time comes around and those who remain reduce their tax-free allowance by 50 per cent?
If they are committed to helping Newport, then this would be acceptable to them as most have full-time jobs. The savings could be put to perhaps saving a much-needed leisure centre. I wonder what response this will generate?
