I WAS shocked and very angry today when I went to Tredegar Park, Newport and saw the destruction that is being perpetrated in our name, as taxpayers.
What in heaven’s name made the council decide to cut down perfectly healthy trees in Tredegar Park? Even the beautiful 100+ year old weeping willows are coming down today. The tree cutting crew were unable to understand it either. It was suggested that it was to protect the children’s splash area, which has not been used all summer. What a waste of money! Or is it because of the ermine moths who decorate some of the trees with their webs to protect the larvae? Although the little caterpillars eat the leaves, they do not do any lasting damage to the trees.
Has this been a joint decision by the council, or is it one person who doesn’t like trees? Why are we, the council tax payers, not told of this kind of destruction?
I have used Tredegar Park regularly to walk my dog, but now I do not wish to go there, with such heartbreaking vandalism going on. I hope the council will explain themselves for this.
