YET AGAIN we are in the process of another consultation on the M4 relief road, at what cost, with further delays. As the name suggests, Gwent Levels. A motorway crossing the levels would be friendlier on the environment. All types of vehicles would be more fuel efficient using this motorway if given the green light and reduce journey times, which again would mean less pollution. As with the old M4, climbing hills into Newport westbound and eastbound only to be braking on the approach to the dreaded tunnels or the Coldra. Should the new motorway across the levels be as straight as possible as this could cost less to build than a motorway full of bends?
Should we have an elevated cycle route running alongside the motorway which would act as a windbreak for motorway traffic, making it more fuel efficient in high winds? A shorter route might get people out of their cars and on the cycle path; wildlife will be disturbed, only short term.
