I WONDER if our acting chief constable along with our police and crime commissioner would inform Argus readers of their views on the chief constable of Durham’s call to legalise hard drugs, allowing addicts to attend special clinics for their needs, at a price to be determined until rehabilitated.
The police have no chance whatsoever of winning the war on drugs so I think this proposal needs careful consideration by government.
If implemented it would not wipe out the black market entirely as the rich and famous would still use illegal suppliers rather than be named and shamed, but it would reduce the crime rate dramatically and free up police officers to tackle other crimes.
FACT! There are probably more people growing cannabis now than potatoes in order to cut costs.
