SO TORFAEN Borough Council has invited views on their re-structure of their school transport system.

I have never seen such gross inefficiency, extortionate overspending and cowardly truckling to some parents who cannot be bothered to take their own children to school.

There are examples of pupils who live in very large houses with parents who are not short of money having free transport for less than a mile. Others who are trans - ported to religious schools because the parents have decided to move further away and many more examples of transport being funded and paid for even though the pupils do not turn up half of the time.

Nevertheless the council keeps on wasting the taxpayers’ money and we are talking millions of pounds because they are too inefficient to audit the thing correctly which pupils deserve transport and which are just freeloading at the taxpayers’ expense.

No wonder they have a £40 million shortfall because it’s like Christmas everyday in local government but we are the Santas delivering the presents.
