NEWPORT councillors have created a wonderful opportunity for retail businesses to sell hiking boots, walking shoes, umbrellas and compasses. I suggest our councillors leave their cars at home and travel by public transport from Ringland and Bettws to the new bus stops at the far end of Queensway, complete their shopping in High Street, Commercial Street, and the surrounding areas, and then with the aid of a compass return to the junction of Queensway and the top of Bridge Street for the return journey.
It is obvious to everyone travelling by public transport, that the elderly and disabled are struggling much more than most people. Many pensioners will remember it was Oliver Hardy of Laurel and Hardy fame, who regularly said “that’s another fine mess you have got us into.”
