IN ENGLAND the Liberal Democrats have recently announced that all five-to-seven year-old pupils in schools will receive free school meals. This should also be happening in Wales. That is why the Welsh Liberal Democrats have recently launched a petition calling for all infant pupils in Wales to receive a free hot lunch at school.
I am determined to see universal free school meals for infants become a reality in Wales. It would help reduce health inequalities that sadly exist due to poor diet and it would help improve concentration while boosting educational attainment. Universal free school meals would also help with the family budget. Over the course of a year families spend on average over £400 on free school meals. The Welsh Liberal Democrats are determined to do all we can to help put money back in the pockets of these families. This policy will do exactly that.
