HOW MANY shots over the bow do we need, before we realise that global warming is costing many lives?

The recent 200mph typhoon which hit the Philippines cost 10,000 to 20,000 lives. In recent years we have had tsunamis, earthquakes, rising tides, we’ve seen permafrost in the Antarctic melting: a huge chunk much bigger than the iceberg that sunk the Titanic has broken away, threatening sea lanes-and yet our leaders turned a blind eye to it. Far from recognising the danger, they are even suggesting that that they would do away with green taxes, making the situation even worse. Cameron claims that nuclear energy could solve the problem. But the hidden cost of nuclear power is the carbon footprint it leaves in obtaining its raw materials, adding to global warming, as well as the long-term threat its waste poses to our planet.

This government needs to take a leaf out of Germany’s book, where 65 per cent of their energy now comes from renewables. Renewables will never run out, the sun, the wind, and the waves will always be there.
