We recently wrote to you to highlight the fact that many thousands of older people in Wales spend the winter months feeling lonely, isolated, vulnerable, and cold in their own homes. Many older people will also go for a month at a time without seeing anyone and the TV is their only company. That is why we asked the Welsh public to support our Spread the Warmth appeal to help us give grants to those in need so they can enjoy a Christmas dinner in the company of others. We have been inundated with kind responses from individuals to this appeal, so now we turn our attention to business owners and managers. All we ask is that you ensure your workplace takes part in the appeal by organising a ‘Winter Warmer’. Your ‘Winter Warmer’ can be any kind of event or activity you want as long as it gives you a warm and cosy feeling. You can do anything from holding a ‘hot chocolate morning’ to sponsoring your boss to make the tea for the day. If you’re organising an office Christmas party, why not ask everyone for a £1 donation and send it to Age Cymru? We can send you a fundraising pack that’s full of ideas to help you organise a ‘Winter Warmer’ – just contact Age Cymru on 029 2043 1555 and ask to speak to the fundraising team. You can also request a pack by emailing fundraising@agecymru.org.uk Let’s make this winter a better time for older people in our communities.
