GREEN Hill Construction held a public consultation at Glan Usk School regarding the new housing development on the old factory site. It emerged at the meeting that the council have sold off the area directly outside the school which was known as the village green during the school construction.
It was to remain a green area between the school and the new houses, but will now have two and three-storey social housing put on it. Built up to and overlooking the school, 248 dwellings with approximately 400 dedicated car spaces.
All of these residents will access the site from Courtney Street and Turner Street bridge utilising the Turner Street junction with Caerleon Road which is already a nightmare with the Tesco development.
Please go to the school on Saturday between 2pm and 4pm to have a look. This needs looking at before the council approve the planning.
With the parents trying all ways to access an already congested road system, they will try and enter this new estate. Charnwood Road and Bank Street suffer greatly with traffic for the school.
I don’t see Turner Street faring any better with the extra residents. Why is the council allowed to sell off all the green space?
