IN APPLYING the ideologically-led Con/Dem government’s austerity programme, Torfaen council are planning to remove certain ‘lollipop’ ladies/men from their posts in order to save cash.
As our ‘lollipop’ people play a vital role in ensuring our children are protected from traffic when they cross the road, the logical conclusion we can all come to is that Torfaen council have little regard for the safety of our children.
I must remind councillors that not everyone whilst driving observes the red light on our pelican crossings but they do stop for our ‘lollipop’ operatives.
If you think I am being over the top regarding cars going through red lights, I have observed four incidents so far this month at Edlogan Way, Park Road, Pontypool and Clarence Corner, Pontypool, twice.
So, as these cuts are totally unnecessary, I ask, along with trade unions like the RMT, that Torfaen council, to fight the cuts, don’t implement them. Our children deserve better.
