SOUTH East Wales AM William Graham says that he has been campaigning for the M4 relief road for over 25 years (Argus Dec 12) and in the Dec 14 edition, Newport Councillor Bob Poole is quoted as saying that upgrading the Southern Distributor Road was a crazy idea. But when the SDR was still in the planning stages did either of them suggest that it should be built to a high standard, comparable say to the Cardiff Peripheral road (as yet unfinished) If not why not?
I make no apologies for harping on, if the SDR had been built to a better standard in the first place, linking as it does the Coldra and Tredegar Park motorway junctions we wouldn’t be having these constant arguments about how to resolve the traffic congestion on the M4 around Newport.
