MANY would agree with the Argus editorial comment (January 29) that, in a climate of savage Tory-led Westminster Government cuts, “The role of every councillor now is to make tough decisions or come up with innovative alternatives”.
Of course, your regular correspondent, anarchist Terry Banfield, proposes the innovative alternative for councillors of breaking the law and refusing to make any savings at all.
But back in the real world, our Labour-led Caerphilly Council is working hard to ensure that the £14.5 million cuts we’ve been forced to make in 2014/15 will have as little impact as possible on the valued services we provide for residents who are already hard-hit by the Tories’ cost of living crisis.
