ONCE again (Argus, January 31 – £23 million for Gwent regeneration announced) Cllr Bob Wellington remembers to forget his leadership in supporting the South Sebastopol development that will scar the landscape along the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal between Cwmbran and Sebastopol.
In this article he indicates a Canalside Quarter, near Cwmbran town centr,e as a potential project for receiving funding. Boats cruise along the canal at a maximum of 4mph. Tourists are attracted to the canal because of the beauty of countryside along with the extensive history.
The view across the slopes of Mynydd Maen towards Twmbarlwm as the canal follows the curve of the contour from Sebastopol is one of the most amazing views throughout the whole of South Wales. It will be blighted by the development Cllr Wellington championed.
A stretch of countryside will be replaced by an extended urban sprawl.
Under Cllr Wellington’s leadership we shall see Cwmbran merge with Sebastopol and Newport.
