NEWPORT City Council has “stepped-up” its campaign against dog-fouling and litter louts, with two new part-time enforcement wardens patrolling our streets. Why only part-time, another Newport Labour half a job? Has the number of mess-spreading irresponsibles increased in Newport or have the decent citizens protested in greater numbers? As Councillor Gail Giles, Labour cabinet member, is quoted: “Like other councillors, I regularly get complaints about dog-mess and litter on our streets” (and on our green spaces?). All decent Newport citizens, including responsible dog-owners and parents with young families will surely now look forward to a great clean-up, especially in our residential streets and public parks!
