AS A RESULT of a recent admission to Ward C7 West, Royal Gwent Hospital, I express nothing short of admiration for all staff who work there. The standards of diligence and patient care were outstanding; staff exhibited the highest levels of patience.

All of this care and consideration was provided in spite of a vast lack of human and even physical resources. Everybody was extremely courteous, kind and considerate. Furthermore, when I became able to eat, the food was good.

My only regret was the plight of some very ill, elderly patients admitted to RGH as a result of their new ‘political trophy’ hospitals in their communities of Ystrad Mynach and Ebbw Vale, lacking the required human resources to service them.

In consequence, these patients were denied visitors from their own localities, visitors who couldn’t travel to Newport, thwarted by the constraints of cost and transport.

My sincere thanks to RGH staff. I urge the self-serving politicians in the Welsh Assembly (or school assembly?) to expedite adequate levels of human and physical resources in all our hospitals.
