HAVING watched the television programme about the proposed motor racing circuit in Blaenau Gwent, I would like to make some comments.

The Welsh Government along with Newport City Council has made massive investment into the Newport Medieval Ship since its find in 2002. Newport City Council commissioned a Colliers Report, when looking to the future of the ship. This independent report predicted, that once reconstructed and on display in a purpose-built museum it would attract 100,000 visitors a year.

This would attract a vast amount of spend into the local economy bringing a good steady return on any investment.

We have the ship and the conservation is well on the way to completion. From the UK and worldwide interest that has always been there the future is certain if support continues.

Compare this with the uncertainty that surrounds the plans to build a race track in Blaenau Gwent.

It is an amazing location for walking, admiring the views, and enjoying the fresh air on good days.

But the site is so high the climate can bring unpredictable weather which could cause timetables to be cancelled at great expense to the planners.

So is this a viable business for the Welsh Government to consider investing £30 million into?
