I WRITE in respect of Newport City Council’s recent initiative to replace the bins currently in use for household rubbish with smaller 14 ltr bins in an attempt to restrict the amount of rubbish going to landfill and increase the amount being recycled.
What a shameful waste of tax payers’ money not to mention being dismissive and unhelpful to residents most of whom are mindful of their civic duty in terms of recycling. This is borne out by the increase in the recycling rates. Does this council not recognise it has an essential duty to dispose of household rubbish and as it chooses to pursue fortnightly collection on this score the difficulties this new measure will inflict on families?
As a single person a 14 litre bin will be fine for me but a family of four? This will create immense problems. The result may well be an increase in fly-tipping which will again disadvantage residents and tax payers. Shame on them. High time these incredibly poor decision makers were held to account.
