I READ with great disinterest and frustration a recent article by one of Newport’s MPs, Paul Flynn, criticising his fellow MP David Davies, when I thought the idea behind the Argus giving our elected representation precious column inches would be to spell out his visions for Newport, if any exist, and his plans to halt the slide of the city’s fortunes.

May I point out to Paul that Monmouth is a smart, well-to-do town that recently won the third most desirable place in the country to live. Newport, sadly, unfortunately, is not.

He is not entirely to blame for the huge demise of a once-vibrant town. He shares that accolade with Bob Bright, leader of the city council who, despite presiding over the chaos and vandalism of the city centre, refuses to retire, letting a more capable individual take the reins or the weak, spineless representation from our two Labour AMs Rosemary Butler and John Griffiths that has allowed the rottweilers of Cardiff Bay to completely monopolise the handouts that come from Europe, spending it all on our capital city. - empire building on a industrial scale and just frittering away what’s left on daft vanity projects and a novelty language.
