THE SILK Report recommended a reduction in the local authorities in Wales and the report findings were endorsed by the Welsh Government. The most vulnerable local authority is Blaenau Gwent so I am not surprised they are having difficulty recruiting a director of education.
Offering more money for the right candidate is hardly a solution if he/she is going to be out of a job in the near future.
South East Wales will always have problems recruiting the right people for local authorities and the emergency services. Certainty of tenure is required to get the right people, not more money. Mark Waters Allt-yr-yn Road Newport
