IT DOESN’T surprise me, the avoidance of ‘Newport’ from the title of the Nato summit. As I’ve written before, there is a common activity to not use the word Newport. The problem here is what I call the ‘Cardiffication’ of Wales. I get continually surprised at this behaviour. When the word “Valleys” is used to the media and the Assembly, they only mean Cardiff to Merthyr, not the Gwent Valleys. The Argus is right to broadcast this issue as it is further denigration of Newport.
